Fascinating NetWorld!

Thanks to a close friend KK, I recently read an article on ‘Internet of things’ available at http://www.technologyreview.com/news/527361/the-economics-of-the-internet-of-things/.

Sharing below some thoughts, ideas and possibilities which came to mind while reading it.

When ‘everything’ is connected and can communicate, everything may be tracked till its end or destruction. So…
  • Nothing may ever be lost as we’ll know exactly where everything is. Portable things will notify us of their location! This also means …
  • Each piece of every product will be tracked to its consumption and may provide tremendous insight into how, when and where a product is consumed and possibly, by whom.
  • It may easy to know where expired medicines, or rotten food is lying, and to be able to collect it.
  • Similarly, it may be easy to know where is junk lying to send someone to collect it.
  • It will be easy to know upfront which implant in the body of a patient is about to malfunction to be able to replace it before it causes a damage
  • A chip in the body monitoring vital parameters may automatically call an ambulance and a doctor if it detects something wrong with a patient’s body
  • Your shoe may alert you that you are walking less or you need to walk faster/slower
  • Your cloths may tell you when it’s time for a wash and when it is not
  • Sensors in a farm automatically switch on an irrigation pump and stop it based on the moisture in the soil and weather conditions
  • We may finally know ‘which half of our advertising is not working’ from the chips on the ads/billboards
  • Traffic conditions and toll collection may be estimated and regulated based on number of mobile phones traveling or stagnant at a location on a road/highway and the speed of their movement
Possibilities are endless and exciting! Looking forward to get there ASAP! Shall be adding more to the list as I learn more and get more ideas!

Thank you for reading and, you may also want to share thoughts. As always, shall highly appreciate your feedback!
